Oldham’s Mark Heffron is set for a tough test on the 4th October, when he faces recent Italian Super Middleweight Champion Roberto ‘The Hammer’ Cocco on the Dave Murphy Acourtier Events promoted NIGHT OF CHAMPIONS mega event at the York Hall in Bethnal Green, London.

In his career to date, Mark has racked up a six victories, five of which were by early stoppage.

On his pro debut back in September 2010, at the Bekkerfield Festival in Heerlen, Holland, Mark knocked out Germany’s Torsten Roos in the second round, just thirteen days later, at the Urania Hall, Olszten, Poland he scored a points victory over homeboy Arek Malek.

Fifteen days later Mark was on his travels once more, this time to the Dr. Papp Laszio Sporthall in Szentes, Hungary, where he dispatched the home fighter Attila Molnar in the first round.

Just over a month later Mark was once again in action, this time he had a much shorter trip, to the M.E.N. Arena in Manchester, where he knocked out Burnley’s Chris O’Brien in just one minute and ten seconds of the first round.

Five months later Mark headed to the City West Hotel in Dublin, where he stopped Spain’s David Pulido in the third.

It would be a whole year before Mark was next in action, once again he packed his bags and headed to Holland, where he dispatched Frenchman Fehti Bentafna inside the first round.

With only the one outing in 2012 and none so far in 2013, Mark is clearly fired up at getting some serious ring action on October 4th, as he made clear when he spoke earlier.

“I’m really pleased to be fighting at York Hall next week.

It’s been well over a year since I last fought, so October 4th can’t come quick enough for me.

Gary (manager Gary Hyde) has got me a good opponent, Roberto Cocco, he only lost his Italian title in June so I’m sure he wants to get back to winning ways, as much as I want to keep my unbeaten record.

Fights like these are what the fans want, it’s also what I want, I don’t want an easy ride, I’m a fighter and I want to fight the best.

He may have a lot more experience than me, he’s had twenty three fights to my six, but stoppage wise we’re five apiece.

I can’t wait, it’s going to be a cracking fight and the fans are going to love it.”

Mark Heffron versus Roberto Cocco features on the Dave Murphy, Acourtier Events promoted ‘NIGHT OF CHAMPIONS’ event, which takes place at York Hall in Bethnal Green, London on Friday, 4th October 2013

Martin Gets Ochuko Test At York Hall on October 4th,

Malta’s reigning WBU International Light Welterweight Champion, ‘Super’ Steve Martin is set to face Ideh Ochuko on the Acourtier Events promoted ‘NIGHT OF CHAMPIONS’ mega show at York Hall in Bethnal Green, London this coming Friday, the 4th October.

Martin, who is coming off five straight stoppage wins – including two Championship bouts, makes a welcome return to the UK, having secured a draw against Callum Wilton back in July last year.

Once again young Steve has been set a tough test, as his opponent on October 4th is Bermondsey, London’s Ideh Ochuko.

Ideh is a tough all action fighter, not too dissimilar in style to Steve, as such a true Battle Royale from the two big punchers is expected on the night.

In his career Ideh has gone the distance with current British Light Welterweight Champion Darren Hamilton, recent Southern Area title challenger Scott Moises, Commonwealth title challenger Eddie Doyle and Central Area Lightweight Champion Scott Cardle, amongst others.

In his last bout Ideh was unlucky in his challenge, against Belfast’s Matthew Wilton, for the International Masters title.

Following a light training session, with Barry Smith at the TRAD TKO Boxing Gym in Canning Town, Steve said.

“Barry and me just watched one of his (Ideh Ochuko) fights on YouTube, he likes to fight, this will be a great fight for the fans.

I’m ready, fighting people like him is what I want, he’ll be coming to fight, that’s what I want, it’s what the fans want, I can’t wait.”

MartinOchukoPosterCoach Barry Smith then added.

“We’ve had a training camp here in the UK, obviously here at the famous TRAD TKO, we’ve been working on everything and have had some great sparring, with the likes of Michael Grant, young talented kids like Dion Reid, Liam Skinkwin and Tommy ‘Da Gunn’ Martin.

Everything’s gone pretty good, yeah I’m really happy as a coach, it’s gone really good.

I’ve seen a bit of him (Ideh Ochuko) honestly he brings it, he’s going to bring his A-game, we know that, but we’re prepared for him and Steve Martin will be victorious on the night, I believe.”

Steve Martin versus Ideh Ochuko will feature on the Dave Murphy Acourtier Events promoted ‘NIGHT OF CHAMPIONS’ mega event, headlined by Jennifer Retzke versus Angel McKenzie World title clash, at York Hall in Bethnal Green, London on Friday, 4th October 2013

Tickets, priced £35 (Standard Seated) and £60 (Ringside) are available by calling Steve’s coach Barry Smith on 07407 499714

Zsiga Replaces Injured Bacanov – Faces Marston At York Hall On Oct 4th

TRAD TKO’s Marianne Marston will now face Hungary’s Melinda Zsiga, on the Dave Murphy Acourtier Events promoted NIGHT OF CHAMPIONS mega show at York Hall in Bethnal Green this coming Friday.

Promoter Dave Murphy pulled out all the stops to try and find a replacement opponent for Marianne, after receiving news on Friday that original opponent, Bosnian #1 Masa Bacalov, had badly injured her hand during sparring,

Burning the candle at both ends over the weekend, the promoter’s persistence finally paid off on Sunday, with Melinda agreeing to step up to the plate and face Marianne at short notice.

Melinda, who normally campaigns in the Super Featherweight division, is one tough cookie, she’s proved that well and truly, having gone the distance with WIBF & GBC World Champion, Krisztina Belinsky, former WBC & WBF World Champion Renata Szebledi as well as current EBU Champion Sabrina Giuiani, who she has gone the distance with twice in her career.

On receiving the news of her new opponent Marianne said.

“I can’t thank Melinda enough, for taking the fight at such short notice, as well as send my sympathies to Masa once again, I hope her injury isn’t too serious.

I don’t know too much about Melinda, other than she is a Super Feather and has fought some top girls.

The only YouTube video’s I have found of her are of her fitness modeling, which doesn’t help me at all, but so it goes, I know I have had the very best preparations for the fight.

I’ve had a great camp at the TRAD TKO Gym, Brian (coach Brian O’Shaughnessy) has been working on some new stuff with me and I’ve had some phenomenal sparring with Ian (former British and European Bantamweight Champion Ian ‘Dappa’ Napa) and Angel (Angel McKenzie).

Weight wise, I’m already down to 55.5kg with five days to go, so am probably going to have to give away at least a kilo and half to two kilos on the night, the fight is being made at 57kg as it’s way too short notice for her to get down to Super Bantamweight Championship weight of 55.34kg, but so it goes.

Besides Melinda, I can’t thank Dave (promoter Dave Murphy) enough for sorting a new opponent so quickly, I would also like to thank my sponsors, Optimax, Winkball, BoxFit and the TRAD TKO Boxing Gym, for their unwavering support over the years.

With this all sorted, now I can get back to focusing on Friday, it’s going to be a great night of fights, particularly looking forward to watching Angel take on Jennifer Retzke for the World title, but also looking forward to seeing Iain Weaver in action again as well as Steve Martin, who is in camp here with Barry Smith at the TRAD TKO.”
